Three Stars of the Week: September 2nd – 9th

Francisco Lindor – Mets

A week ago Javy Báez and Francisco Lindor were in the middle of fan-vs-player drama. This past week, they began to earn his cheers as the Mets began to crawl out of the hole they dug themselves into.
Báez and Lindor were instrumental in a few key Mets wins as they brough themselves within a few games of 1st.
Lindor recorded 5 RBI in the recent road trip to DC, punctuated by a pair of 9th inning homers.
Lindor and Báez have brought energy back to the heart of the Mets lineup and infield, but there’s still a lot of work to do if they want a shot at postseason baseball.

Luka Gavran – St John’s

As St John’s defeated Fordham in a tight 1-0 game, it was goalkeeper Luka Gavran standing tall in net to preserve the shutout.
Gavran recorded four saves in a tight battle between New York schools, an impressive outing for the redshirt junior, who brought his save percentage up to 0.842.
In four games, Gavran has already recorded two clean sheets, both requiring some impressive and athletic saves.
The Canadian keeper helped St John’s to a huge win in the early season, and if they keep getting these performances in goal from Gavran, they’ll be in a good spot as the year progresses.

Matthews tejeda – QBFC II

Queensboro FC II resumed USL Academy play with a tough win over FA Euro, as the team continues a strong debut year in the new developmental league.
On the offensive end for QBFC, it was Matthews Tejada who caused problems for the FA Euro defense all day. He was a part of both first-half goals, scoring the opener before setting up the second. Even in the second half Tejeda kept pressing hard to disturb the FA Euro defense.
With consistent offensive performances QBFC has proved that their academy team can come out on top of the league in their first ever season.
