Home Sweet Home? St. Francis’ return to Brooklyn another loss

Things remain low in Brooklyn Heights for the St. Francis men’s basketball squad, as the team still looks for its first win on the season.
After five consecutive road games, including two in the Emerald Coast Classic in Florida, the Terriers returned home to host Hartford on Sunday afternoon.
Despite having the regular rotation back at their disposal, the Terriers (0-8) left the gym still in search of their first win for the season. They fell to the Hawks (1-7), 55-68.
Both teams traded baskets to open the game, as Rob Higgins and Michael Cubbage entered the scorebook to ensure a 4-4 tie to open the game.
The Hawks would open up a 22-5 run from there, and take a 35-25 lead to the locker room at halftime.
After an 11-1 run to open the second half, back-to-back three-pointers by Trey Quartlebaum fueled the Terriers best run of the game as they totaled a 12-2 run that would cut the Hartford lead to 59-49 with 5:13 to play.
But the St. Francis offense managed just two field goals in the final four minutes, as the Hawks pulled away for the win.
Three players finished in double-digit scoring for St. Francis on Sunday.
Trey Quartlebaum’s 13 points led the Terriers, hitting five of his 12 field goal attempts. He added a game-high four steals, four rebounds, one block, and one assist.
Freshman guard Nick Folk started the second half and had his best game of the season so far. Folk finished with 11 points, two rebounds, and one assist in 23:15 on the floor.
Patrick Emilien finished in double digits in his fifth game this season – managing 10 points on a team-high 50 percent field goal conversion rate, a team-high eight rebounds, two assists, and one steal.
The Terriers face their third Metro opponent this season on Wednesday, Dec. 8, when they travel to Saint Peter’s in Jersey City. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. and the game can be streamed on ESPN+.
