On Saturday, Iona Prep announced the passing of former longtime baseball coach Freddy Gallo on their Twitter account. Gallo was an Iona Prep alum who graduated from the school in 1964.

“With great sadness, we announce the loss of our beloved coach, Freddy Gallo,” Iona Prep’s official baseball team account “@GaelsBaseball” wrote on Twitter, threading a number of his numerous famous sayings.

Gallo coached at the school from 1982-2012 before retiring after hitting the 30-year benchmark and following a second Catholic High School Athletic Association Championship that June. He also served as a scout for the New York Mets and was a graduate of Iona College.

Gallo was named to the CHSAA Hall of Fame in 2003, the same year he led Iona Prep to their first AA championship in the CHSAA.

Gallo had an all-time coaching record of 537-263 at Iona Prep, according to the school’s website.
