I read the story by Benjamin Fang in the December 5th edition about Councilman Mark Gjonaj, chair of the Committee on Small Businesses, and his frustration that the city has not reduced the number of regressive regulations that hurt small businesses in New York City.
Several years ago the Queens Civic Congress, an umbrella group of local civic associations, joined with the small businesses of Queens to help them survive the many onerous regulations the city has imposed on them.
It is sad that the city has not removed one repressive regulation over the years.
I hope the article alerts city officials that they must do more to help small businesses. It is the small businesses in local shopping strips that serve the residents here in Queens.
