Comptroller Scott Strinter's call for the MTA to bring all Queens LIRR stations up to speed, including reopening the old Elmhurst Station and building the Sunnyside Yard Station, missed another critical need.
Why not reopen the still-intact, underground Woodhaven LIRR Station that was closed in 1976? It would require a minimum amount of work to restore this station.
Richmond Hill, Woodhaven, and Ozone Park residents, as well as those transferring from buses, would have new transportation options.
Within 15 minutes, commuters would arrive at the Atlantic Avenue LIRR Terminal, where they could access the Barclays Center subway hub.
This would provides access to employment opportunities, colleges, medical facilities, and museums.
Reverse commuters would have new access to jobs and colleges in eastern Queens, as well as Nassau and Suffolk counties.
