Dear Editor,

The description of the old Long Island City by Edward Riecks in his recent dispatch is spot on.

When I was chair of Community Board 2 in the mid-80's, the large parking lot that became the Citicorp Building literally had half the crime in the entire 108th Precinct.

The late Walter McCaffrey and I negotiated an amenities package that resulted in a 2,400-square-foot library, free interchange between the G and the E and F lines, and $400,000 for youth and senior programs.

I was at City Hall last week, and of the few dozen Amazon protestors, only one was from LIC. I wish the upper middle-class, pseudo-socialists had more regard for the working people of LIC, Queensbridge and Sunnyside.

Sincerely,

James Dillon

Long Island City
