After a brief return to Queens, the St. John’s men’s basketball team is back on the road for a two-game stretch beginning on Tuesday when the Johnnies square off with Grand Canyon as part of the BBVA Compass Valley of the Sun Shootout.

Tuesday’s showdown with preseason Western Athletic Conference (WAC) favorite Grand Canyon (5-1) comes on the heels of a third-place finish at the AdvoCare Invitational, where the Red Storm knocked off Oregon State and UCF, followed by a 35-point rout of Sacred Heart on Saturday at Carnesecca Arena.

The Red Storm and Lopes will tip off the second game of a doubleheader at 11:30 p.m. ET inside Talking Stick Resort Arena, the home of the NBA’s Phoenix Suns. Arizona and Texas A&M are paired for the first game of the event.

Shamorie Ponds continues shine on both ends of the floor, most recently he recorded 22 points, seven assists, four steals and four rebounds to help St. John’s improve to 7-1 with a 90-55 win over the Pioneers.

After the BBVA Compass Valley of the Sun Shootout, St. John’s will depart for Los Angeles where the Johnnies will square off with No. 16 Arizona State (7-0) on Friday at the Staples Center as part of the Hall of Fame Classic tripleheader. Tip off is slated for 8 p.m.
