A couple of weeks ago, this dopey radio host and columnist boldly proclaimed that St. John’s had punched their ticket to this year’s NCAA Tournament after their win over Villanova.

Well, about that. Let’s pretend that proclamation didn’t happen.

Why? St. John’s is right back on the NCAA Tournament bubble.

Since the Johnnies defeated Villanova, they have lost three of four games. Three games to teams that most likely will not be in the tournament.

This season has been nothing short of baffling.

St. John’s is still in a good position to find their way into the tournament. I still expect this team to be dancing in March, but honestly, is that what this season was supposed to be about?

Of course not. St. John’s has one of the most talented teams in the Big East. The fact that they are not thinking about doing special things at this point in the season is a massive disappointment.

They have been consistently inconsistent and underwhelming.

Maybe that big moment is coming. Maybe it’s in two weeks at the Big East Tournament.

Maybe that is when this talented St. John’s team will realize their full potential.

They’ll need to. The Big East may be mediocre, but it will have a bunch of teams looking to have a good week to put them in a position to make the Big Dance.

A whole lot of maybe’s for March, and that’s never a good sign when you are on the NCAA Tournament Bubble.

You can listen to me Friday, Sunday & Monday from 2 to 6 a.m. on WFAN Sports Radio 660/1019 FM.
