For the 42nd year, the Maspeth Kiwanis hosted Law Day with local, state and national law enforcement agencies at I.S. 73 in Maspeth.

Members of the FBI, Department of Environmental Conservation, Middle Village Ambulance Corps, Department of Sanitation, NYPD Community Outreach, TSA, Kiwanis Club and Queens District Attorney visited classrooms to speak about their careers.

According to Tom Rudzewick of the Maspeth Kiwanis, the day is a continuation of Kiwanis member Edward McGowan’s creation of Law Day back in 1976 as a civic project to have students “understand that law enforcement is here to help and that they don’t need to run away from them, but go to them for help or reach out if they have interest in pursuing a career in law,” Rudzewick said.

Kiwanis member Michelle Masone added that the event allows students to engage with the law enforcement agencies in an intimate environment.

“When they see a real person at the end of the badge, it makes a difference,” Masone added.
